Attracting the Target Market to your Web Site

There are many ways to attract visitors to your web site. Some effective methods are listed below. Again, it is useful to look at the unique nature of your own business, and develop innovative and creative methods of your own. DJM will work with you in formulating the most effective means of promotion for your business’ web site.

  • Make the site USEFUL! If people can use your site for more than one purpose, they will! An example of this value adding feature would be to include a link to the stock exchange on a web site that is to attract high-flying businesspeople and investors. Or to include a link to the daily weather forecast on a fishing tackle shops web site.
  • Exchange links with as many sites as possible. Look for those sites with a similar target audience as your own. One possibility here is the Banner Advertisement Exchange program.
  • Pay for banner advertising on a popular web site that draws your desired target audience.
  • Promote your web site in all your advertising.
  • Make everyone you do business with, or would like to do business with, aware of your web site.
  • Start a mailing list and send newsletter emails to those on the list informing them of what’s new with your business or web site, what specials are on, etc. User details can be gathered from the web site to expand your client database.
  • Add interactive features and services to your site to encourage visits. For example:- an interactive message board that visitors can post messages or comments to.

Remember:

The World Wide Web is a very different medium to television, radio or paper. The web uses a "pull" rather than "push" approach to advertising. Visitors to web sites expect to be able to find specific information on a particular topic quickly and easily. It is also their choice whether to visit and/or linger at your site, so it is important your web site is user-friendly, engaging, and informative.

Measuring the Success of Your Web Site

Just as important as attracting the people to your web site, is being aware of their response to it. Valuable user feedback can pinpoint areas of your web site and business that need more or less attention. Listed are methods that DJM can implement to measure this response.

  1. Hit Counters - these record the compound number of people to visit your web site.
  2. Access Logs - record the number of visitors to your web site for a specified time period, how long each visitor was there, the pages they visited within your site and whether they were referred to your site via a Search Engine, or via your web address directly.
  3. Interactive features which encourage users to give feedback. When designing forms for feedback you must consider what will be in it for the user. For example; it could be fun to fill out; the user could receive information back from the business; or the user could be automatically entered into a draw for a prize. DJM will work with you to develop creative ways to encourage visitors to give feedback.
